Before + Progress Pictures: The Historic House By The Water: Living Area, Part 1

Welcome to the inside of our very own cantaloupe turned Living Area. Below is what it looked like when the sellers lived here.

Here's what it looked like when we moved in, on the left. And on the right is where we're at today, about 2 months later. So far, we've prepped the walls and the trim and put up a coat of primer.

We'll be re-designing the marble fireplace (more on that soon), removing the fan, and demolishing the arch to the dining room.

The walls are being painted Behr Antique White in Satin and the trim is being painted Behr Cotton Whisper in Semi-gloss. They're the same colors that we used in The Office. The crown moulding will stay. We believe it's the only original crown moulding in the house (the rest was added later, and we plan on removing it). It's very simple, and I like it.

The doggie gate and retro alarm were torn out. Our internet was apparently somehow connected to their 1970s Scarface style security system, and when we ripped it out we lost all internet use for a few days. Who knew? That thing had all kinds of weird functions. I think if you talked directly into the speaker you could even contact E.T. And maybe Drew Barrymore.

This is what the room looks like if you turn to your left after entering the front door. The window faces West. The front of the house faces South. We're working on a way to relocate the vents on the North wall, most likely by installing a vented fire door in the adjacent dining room.

The main challenge in this room is it's long, narrow layout and the front door placement in the middle of the room. We will most likely arrange the furniture into two sitting areas; one with bookcases as a reading cove and one in front of the fireplace where the television will be placed. I'll try to scan some sketches for you tomorrow.

This is a view looking into the room from the staircase landing. Both photos were taken after the arch was demolished.

So that's where we're at. Not a ton of progress, but you can (hopefully) expect more exciting pictures in the next week-ish. Except for The Superbowl this pretty much sums up what we'll be up to this weekend. If only we could get those mutts to paint...

About 5 seconds after that photo was taken, she tried to eat the tarp.

Looks tremendously better just with primer. Sometimes I wonder what modivates people to select the paint colors they do! And that fireplace, are you sure you don't want to keep it as is?! :) Janell
