Last week while running, I passed a young mother standing at a bus stop with three small children. The temperature was well into the eighties, smoldering enough that I had to stop for a drink halfway through my seven miles. I wanted to offer them a ride. Only I was still a few miles away from my car.
Later that day I expressed to Andrew my concern for that woman and her family. "Why? I love public transportation," he said. "I used to ride the train in Chicago."
Except he didn't have a stroller, three sippy cups, a diaper bag, and a gang of little people.
So what about you? Do you jet set with the masses?

Now, no, because public transportation in Austin sucks. But I grew up with parents who always bought lemon cars, so we were on the public bus more often than not. It was never a negative experience for me... it was always an adventure. When I was really young, I signed to people next to me to start conversations. I didn't realize that not everybody were deaf.
Public transport in my neck of the woods would be a john deer with a wagon on the back....so no....I dont do the P.T. lol ;)
If I lived in Chicago, NYC or any city where public transportation worked, I would use it. Between Minneapolis (where public transportation is too infrequent to be useful) and LA (where it's a joke) I drive my own car the rare occasions I need to use it.
I totally would if public transportation didn't suck in Southern California. The amtrak train to San Diego is like $12 - I *could* take it to work, but it would take probably 20-30 minutes more, be a bit of a coordination nightmare, and costs twice as much as driving ($3 gas each way - on an old car - the additional mileage isn't affecting value much).
All the big cities need better public transport - that will get more cars off the road and be better for the environment. There's only a handful of cities in the US with good public transportation. :(
