when: then where: National Estuarine Research Reserve, which should be called A Zoo Without Cages Or Supervision what: a gopher tortoise and an armadillo, we also ran into a rattlesnake, boars, deer, alligators, and manatees
This is such a great feature! (Wish I had thought of it.) Love seeing little glimpses of your life.

we went to something like that while visiting my in-laws in az. we fed a giraffe-which was great but sent my skin crawling afterwards, had deer and goats chewing on my sweater-oh so much fun! p.s the tortoises we saw were mating, which was interesting in itself...

Alison, I was kidding about the zoo part. It really is just this huge, untouched preserve for hiking along the ocean and intercoastal. We didn't think we'd actually see any animals. It was insane. And NOBODY was out there.
In the eighties, I was a little kid who put together model buildings out of notebook paper and Scotch tape and spent days on end playing Monopoly with my best friend. What I've done over the last decade is pretty much the same thing. I began buying, renovating, and renting dozens of properties during Architecture school, where I mostly learned how to stay awake for six days straight.
Today I'm a new mother married with four dogs and way too many houses along the coasts of Florida. We recently moved into and began working on a three story lake house built in 1928.

very cool!
It was really neat! But hard to photograph. That darn armadillo was zippy. The tortoise on the other hand...

-- as in there were NO FENCED in areas or separation from the animals. You had no idea where they even were. YEAH, I KNOW. Hello, rattlesnake.
