Probably because nothing, I repeat nothing, encourages travel like redesigning a home. Especially when you've been washing dishes in your bathtub for three weeks.
NOTHING.
Anyway. Every so often I come up with an idea for a getaway, but instead of amassing information and properly planning a vacay, I just split. Gone. Like the wind. By the seat of my pants. And sometimes I even forget those.
Up until now, it's worked out all right. You can usually buy pants at the airport.
See, the thing is, it's that Andrew actually requires things like itineraries and hotel reviews and spreadsheets and Blackberries.
I know. It's all very foreign to me.
So help a girl out.
How do you book your trips? Travelocity? Orbitz? Minivan?

i am the total opposite of you. i research, research and research some more. i use travelocity and look at the reviews people give on the hotels and trip advisor to see reviews. i sometimes wish i were more like you in this case because sometimes i can drive myself crazy analyzing the decision too much.
you know a trick I use is Flickr - when I am going somewhere I search other people's photos to see what places I want to see (since i am a self professed photoholic) and then I plan from there.
and have you ever used a Rick Steve's travel book? We used one for Spain and Italy, and booked some stuff ahead, but mostly played it by ear with the use of these handy books :)
where are you off to this time Kelly?
That's what we're trying to figure out, Kate.
Great tips, both of you! Thank you! Keep 'em coming...
They sell pants @ the airport?! Next time I'm pantless there (there WILL be a next time, mark my words), I'll remember this.
We think of a destination then see if our Delta Air Miles will take us there. So we always book our flights thru the airline. Mr. FC does the research & I go shopping for my outfits b/c I like to do my part. =]
Honestly, the best trip we ever took was one where we had no hotel reservations (except for the first night). We flew in, rested up, then asked around and checked out places. Wound up w/ the best beach bungalow EVER. Risky, eh?
P.S. Thank you so much for always dropping by my blog. Loooove seeing your comments,K! My pygmy goat thanks you, too.
Aw, thanks, Freckles. I try really hard to visit with everyone, but I always feel like I'm not doing a very good job!
And, yes, you can totally get sweatpants in airports. Especially the tacky kind with cities on the rear ends. OhyesIhave.
I like kayak.com for comparison shopping and southwest for traveling in the country. Also - we're nerds, we like guidebooks. nick's reading a guidebook for our own city right now..
I often use kayak to book. If you *must* research, tripadvisor.com is decent with hotel providing consumer-written hotel reviews.
Though I'm not sure why you're conforming to Andrew's way... it might do him some good to travel your way. :)
I found a book that has an entire chapter dedicated to pooping in Nepal. That's the extent of my planning so far.
I second recommendations for Kayak.
What is this Kayak that everyone speaks of? Why have I never heard of this?
Kayak.com searches a bunch of different airfare/hotel trip search engines and compares them for you. Sometimes you can still find better deals going directly through the airlines, but at least this shows you how expedia, orbitz, etc. all compare to each other.
Ah, thanks, Kate! I'll check it out!
Like Kayak, Sherman Travel is another for comparing prices -- http://www.shermanstravel.com/
Also, the airline sites directly sometimes beat the travel sites AND USAir (probably the others too) has a page where they do flight & hotel together. That has been where I've gotten the best price on flight and hotel for 2 trips -- St. Thomas and Nuevo Vallarta
Good to know, Vonda! We're looking at Africa and Spain if anyone has specific recommendations for those. But we're open to other destinations, too.
