Both Satchel and Manny think that we should leave The Kitchen just the way that it is, because there is nothing that says GOOD TIME like munching on bits of subfloor on your way out to cop a squat in the morning. The stove is still hooked up, if you can believe it, and when Andrew dropped a piece of cheese while making turkey melts last night, Manny dug his face right into a pile of dust and pebbles and swallowed three two by fours, a cordless drill, and the dishwasher.
Which also probably explains why that wall is now missing by the door.

You are woman, and I hear you roar! I'm constantly amazed at the speed of your projects. This sucker is going to be a gold medal in no time. Can't wait to come back for more progress pics!
Thanks, Meg. I have a lot of help. But, seriously, this is crawling for me. I'm glad that it doesn't seem that way, because I've been feeling a bit guilty (just a tad) about how very slow I feel like the progress has been on this house up until recently. A few years ago I was juggling about a dozen of these properties (with major projects) at once with pretty strict deadlines. These days I'm all, "I think I'll take a nap after lunch..."
:)
Oh honey, I feel your pain. We moved into our house and staterd demo/reno in the kitchen right away. That was July of 2008. We -just- got a few wall cabinets up a few weeks ago and started on some backsplash this past weekend. We still have a whole other wall of cabinets to do. Patience is a virture, and damnit I am a patient girl but I probably won't even recognize my house when it's all done.
We bought a 100 year old apartment in a French style building in Buenos Aires 3 years ago.
We then rented a little apartment and stayed there with the Pup until the nice men who took too many tea breaks, had ripped out walls, put in walls, made new kitchens and bathrooms..
We would come by and visit and see the progress , if any .. some days it seemed not.
But that is the way we did it.
I salute you and bow down to you for living there during this process.. you are a better man than I, Gunga Din.
So, am I looking at the pictures and drawings right, the kitchen was in two side by side rooms? If so, truly odd and of course you are fixing the problem. Janell
Janell, we're relocating the beam above the doorways to the same height as the main kitchen (the area with the refrigerator has a vaulted ceiling) in order to remove the portion of the wall above the doors and in between the dishwasher and the refrigerator.
subfloor... yum!
Sounds like Barley. I've lost count of the number of things he's ingested while we've been working... drywall, grout, bits of tile... :)

I swear they're like Shop Vacs.
The Miami Animal Police are probably going to show up on our doorstep any minute.
Great progress! Have you made decisions with backsplash, flooring, etc? I wonder how you make decisions with these type of things - primarily with what YOU like in mind, or what is the most liked by OTHERS (e.g. people who might buy or rent from you)?
Looks like FUN!
Oh god, I just saw my future reading this post...
