This afternoon Andrew brought home some flowers, something he's been doing fairly often lately, and without prodding or strip club receipts or a second wife in tow. He usually brings me all different types, because he knows how I feel about commitment, and I find that part of the surprise particularly delightful.
These ones are HYDROGENOUSES!
He said it just. like. that. when he walked through the door as if to declare, "I BRING YOU THE HOLY GRAIL WRAPPED IN THE RAREST SILK AND DUNKED IN CHOCOLATE MILK!"
No boring roses or tulips or daisies, no sireee.
HYDROGENOUSES!

JUST A TIP!!!
when your hydrangeas start to die...
1) you just boil some water,
2) fill a heat resistant cup with the boiling water,
3) Wrap paper towels around the stem of the hydrangea to protect the flower from the hot steam,
4) Cut about an inch off the end of the stem.
5) Then immediatley put the freshly cut stem into the cup of HOT water. Let it sit for as long as it takes for the flower to refresh.
It works EVERY time. believe me
That is so cute. Kudos to Andrew for bringing you such pretty flowers. Those are one of my favorites. Regarding his pronunciation-when my older sister and I were younger (much younger), we were at a deli counter ordering deli meat. She looked over at the bologna, and said, "I would like to order a half pound of 'boh-log-nah'. ". I about died, and tried to tell her it was "ba-loh-nee", and an ENORMOUS fight ensued, because far be it from her to have her little sister tell her something that was *obviously* incorrect. We still laugh about it.
He's adorable.
My Southern friends recently corrected my pronunciation - it's HIGH-DRANE-GEAS.
That's with a gin and tonic and a shrill voice, right, Raina?
That's Hydrogenius!
Hygiranamo!
That made me laugh.
Oh, that's great.
(Err, Raina, how else would you pronounce it? I'm not a southerner, but I'd say it that way...)
aww. :] my bridal bouquet was "hydrogenouses" just like the ones in these pics (and white roses too). they are my favoritest flower!!
We had hydrogenouses, too! But I don't think they were in my bouquet? I dunno. That was, like, a year and half ago. FOREVER.
Man! Hydrangeas and diamonds within the span of a few weeks? You lucky duck, you :)
@craftosaurus - I say HIH-DRAN-GEAS (short "i" and flat "a"). Midwestern style. ;)
Raina, flat A all the way. Born in Chi-town, raised in Saint Louie. By the way, nice job on the new column, lady.
What are you feeding that man? I wanna cook up a batch for mine.
