Rome has some of the dirtiest streets I've seen in the free world and internet access from the dark ages, like around 1999 or something. There's never any soap in the bathrooms, even in the priciest restaurants, and the concept of personal space does. not. exist. Also, the men's cologne. We will not discuss the men's cologne.
With all of that, it's still breathtaking and inspiring and beautiful in an other worldly sort of way and not just because the pasta is orgasmic and the locals say, "Si, basketbullah! BASKETBULLAH!" when you mention that you are from Florida.
But I'm sure that is probably part of it.

i love all of your photos. great job and i'm totally jealous of you and your travels!
You haven't seen trash in the streets until you go to Naples. (They have had repeated garbage strikes for the last five years.) My three year old last year said "what a terrible mess!" every time we went out.
The food makes up for it.
That's hysterical that they put a Ferrari tag on their Fiat. Reminds me of the time I laughed out loud on the freeway when I realized someone had put a mercedes tag on an old mazda.
I love all the window/building photos btw.
Thanks, Alison and MBL! I took a few hundred photos, and I still wish I'd gotten more.
Really, Lisa?! I'd never heard that, but I'm glad you mentioned it. We've been talking about going there in the next few years.
Why is it that foreigners alwasy align US with basketball? In the Caribbean they are always like "Ooh Indiana Pacers!!"
Really guys? Pacers? People who LIVE in Indiana forget the Pacers even exist, how do you know about them!?
I felt the same way during my trip to Rome (and Florence, too.) So much beauty at every single corner, yet I couldn't get past the dirt and grime. Rome was also the only city in my travels throughout Europe (I lived there for a year and hit 10+ countries) where I didn't completely feel safe. That aside, it is a fantastic place that you must visit once in your lifetime. Enjoy your travels...I've enjoyed remembering my experiences through yours.

Beautiful shots! Looks like you are mastering the camera.
As a Northern Italian, we tend to view even Rome as the "south". Northern Italy is pretty clean - hopefully you are making your way in that direction (Venice is my all-time favorite Italian city).
Kelly, if I can't have your life, or go on vacations this spectacular, I at least want your boots.
