I hope you understand.
In other news, we're finally home from the hospital and we're settling into our new roles as parental types. After hearing every postpartum horror story during my (very difficult pukefest) pregnancy, by the time I gave birth I was wholly expecting colic and cracked nipples and no sleep or showers or public outings and hair and clothing perpetually covered in spit. I also thought that I'd feel somewhat conflicted about being entirely responsible for the needs and well being of an essentially helpless person. One who I'd never even met.
Well. I'm happy to report that I was wrong. I was so so so so wrong.
Aston sleeps like a champ and keeps most of his bodily fluids inside of his dipes. He breastfeeds easily, even after my body began to fail and I went nearly a week without any food or water. (Miraculously I continued to produce milk, and even more miraculously Andrew held him up to me or pumped while I was unconscious in the hospital.) I am completely enthralled with his baby smell and his chicken legs and the way that he stares at me with his big blue eyes in the middle of the night when he's eating. I am ridiculously in love with him. Like to the point that if he projectile poops I holler to Andrew to get the video camera because Aston is being so. hilariously. adorable. I HAVE BECOME THAT MOTHER.
Anyway.
Here are some pictures of our past couple of weeks at the hospital. La Dolce Vita Studios came down from Tennessee to photograph his actual birth, these are just a few shots that Andrew and I managed to capture when I wasn't in surgery or throwing up or spending forty five minutes trying to make it from my bed to the bathroom. Which was ten feet away.
They're not stellar quality, but I don't care. These images are precious to me.

p.s. Oh, and this happened, too. That's an ice cream cake that Andrew brought to me in bed. Yes, I am a lucky girl.

Kelly - thanks for sharing even just a little bit. The pictures are amazing and so are the two dudes in your life. Happy belated.
I'm so glad you're all home safe and (relatively) sound.
P.S. My favorite photo is the leg and pinkie flying out of the bassinet.
Oh, Kelly. Ashton is very lucky to have you two as parents. This post has me on the verge of tears just thinking about what you all have gone through. I love the breastfeeding picture. I regret not having a picture taken when Willa was newborn. I more than make up for it now since I'm constantly thrusting the camera to my husband demanding him to take a picture of her nursing. Ha!
It gives me chills to think of Andrew holding Ashton to you to nurse or pump while you were unconscious. I am a worry wort sometimes and think of worst case scenarios and told my husband once that if I was ever in the hospital unconscious that he needed to call our breastfeeding center and have them help me continue to breastfeed. I'm so sorry you had to live through that.
Ashton is beautiful, by the way! Happy belated birthday!
Happy Birthday, in both senses of the word :)
I am so glad to see you blogging ! that means you can at least manage to hit the keys on the keyboard, yay !
It is amazing at that size and age, that he already has such a look of Himself. Look at those beautiful eyes .. he already has a twinkle in them too, watch out for that.
His hands are beautiful .. you have a piano, right ? :)
I am glad you are home, it is much easier to heal at home..
Aside from the horrors of what came before, now you are at home, your little unit of 3 and I am so happy for you all.
much love. C
Beautiful pics! I especially love the last one of Aston kicked back and relaxing on his proud mama. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my, Kelly! He is a cutie, for sure.
Happy birthday! I'm glad you're alive.
What a perfect baby boy :) I'm so happy you're home and that you and Aston are OK. I was worried about you.... xoxo
He's gorgeous, Kelly.
Happy belated BDay to you. :)
Kelly so glad you're all home safe and sound. We've missed you around here! He's a cutie pie!!
glad you're at home and recovering:) hopefully your little guy keeps behaving for you.
Your birth is completely traumatizing to me, even though I don't know the details and I've already given birth 3 times.
So, like, you win. ;)
Happy birthday, congratulations, Happy MOTHERS DAY, cripes. You know I spent Mother's Day in the ER having one of the kiddie's stomachs scoped for foreign objects.
Listen. It doesn't necessarily get easier, but it gets different. And I think easy breastfeeding is just payback for the worst pregnancy and birth in Florida.

Oh my goodness. He's precious. Just precious.
Happy birthday and mother's day.

Glad you're still with us.
Your boy is lovely. :)
Happy Birthday :-)
I have pictures of each of my kids breastfeeding, and they are some of my favorite pictures.
I'm glad you made it through and loved reading your update!
We are the same age now, for a brief time (34 is coming in about 5 weeks for me). Happy belated 33!
The pictures and the baby (!!) are beautiful :o)
Sorry you had such a rough go of it but so happy at the result. That picture of him and your husband? The child was obviously cloned. :)
Kelly he is gorgeous and I'm so glad things are all going so well for you now! Wishing you so the best! Hugs, Linda
Aw, Kelly, that was worth the wait, he is just incredible. And seriously, I wish I had one single photo of my kids that was as good as any of these. I love the one with his little foot in the air and your smile, that one says everything.
I am really happy for all three of you and hope it's smooth sailing from here. Happy belated birthday!
I'm glad you all are home. The pics are beautiful...what a darling baby boy. Happy Belated Birthday.
Kelly - I know *exactly* how you feel about your adorable child, as I chuckled in recognition through that part.
Glad you pulled through what sounds like a rough patch, and congratulations on becoming a family for real. <3
Best, Connie (architect too - from Norway, living in Italy with my husband and 4 children. I like keeping up with you.)
Motherhood is pure joy, and a miracle. Toes are delicious, fat, over-sized noses make the most delightful beeping sounds, and little pudgy tummies are delectable beyond anything you've ever previously eaten.
Samwow will be 21 soon. You'll still hear the occasional rambunctious chase upstairs with him yelling, "Mom, I have a date! Give me back my nose, I'll need that!"
It never gets old...
That baby of yours...oh, yum! He'll make everything you went through seem infinitesimally unimportant, and you'll be willing to repeat the whole thing one day.
Amazing isn't it how a spit up and baby poo become no big deal!
~Bliss~
Your photos are just amazing! I am so in love with them!
Yeah! So happy life is getting back to your "new" normal and you are all well! Enjoy and eat that baby up!!!
Maureen
What a little cutie patootie! Those eyes.... those eyes....
I'm pretty sure our little dudes are super close in age.... mine was born on April 25th.
If the two babes had a pooping/peeing contest I think mine would win. Your description is right on the money, except when we try to leave the house Cooper always seems to quadruple the output. Haha!
Anyway, congrats on your new son and on being home now to enjoy him. :)
